Medicare for all is picking up steam, with National Nurses United — the largest union for nurses in the country — now backing the initiative, ABC News reports. Since proposed as a campaign initiative by Vermont Senator and presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, many other Democratic candidates have rallied behind the policy as part of their platforms. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, has expressed disdain for the plan, calling it the first step to American socialism. Sanders' version of Medicare for all would replace most private insurance with a single-payer program based on the current plan’s model.
