Jamie K. Durrett attended college at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee where she graduated summa cum laude, receiving a B.S. in Languages and Literature in 2004. Ms. Durrett received her doctorate of jurisprudence from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama in 2007. Ms. Durrett was admitted to practice law in Alabama and Tennessee in 2007 and Florida and the District of Columbia in 2008. Ms. Durrett is also admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Northern, Middle and Southern Districts of Alabama and the United States District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee.
During law school, Ms. Durrett was a member of the American Journal of Trial Advocacy, the Cumberland School of Law Trial Advocacy Board and Phi Alpha Delta Legal Fraternity. She served as a Judge Abraham Caruthers Legal Research and Writing Teaching Fellow and an Intern for the Honorable Virginia Emerson Hopkins, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama. Ms. Durrett was featured in Who's Who Among American Law Students. She is the contributing author of "Closing Arguments: Through the Eyes of a Trial Advocate" by Kevin Kennedy, American Journal of Trial Advocacy Vol. 30:3, Spring 2007. Ms. Durrett has also authored "Ethical Implications of Social Media for Attorneys" for DRI's The Voice, Volume 12, Issue 39, October 2, 2013, "Google Glass: How Will It Affect the Law as We Know It?" for DRI's The Voice, Volume 13, Issue 18, May 7, 2014 and "The Ethical Boundaries of Client Confidentiality" for DRI's For the Defense, May 2014. Ms. Durrett has presented at many CLEs on various topics including Medicaid planning, insurance coverage, discovery, ethics, attorney wellness and civil litigation matters.
Ms. Durrett currently participates in the following professional organizations: Alabama State Bar; Defense Research Institute; Florida Bar Association; Tennessee Bar Association; District of Columbia Bar Association; and the Montgomery County Bar Association. Ms. Durrett currently serves as the delegate of the 19th Judicial District to the Tennessee Bar Association House of Delegates and has served in this role since 2013. Ms. Durrett is also the current TBA Young Lawyers Division District 10 Representative and has served in this role since 2014. In addition, Ms. Durrett serves on the executive committee of the Law Office Technology and Management Section of the Tennessee Bar Association.
Ms. Durrett currently practices at Wilson Elser. She previously practiced at Batson Nolan PLC. Her practice focuses on civil litigation including labor and employment, healthcare liability, civil rights, governmental tort liability and municipality law, corporate litigation and transactions, workers' compensation, wills and estates, Medicaid planning, personal injury and insurance coverage. Prior to working for Batson Nolan PLC, she practiced in the area of insurance defense, corporate law and Medicare compliance in Birmingham, Alabama. Ms. Durrett has been named as one of the American Society of Legal Advocates Top 40 Under 40 Litigation Lawyer for Tennessee since 2014 and was selected for Continental Who's Who. She has also been selected as the TBA Young Lawyers Division Star of the Quarter two times.
Jamie was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Ms. Durrett's family is originally from Clarksville, TN and returned in 1992. In her spare time, Ms. Durrett volunteers in her community. She is a volunteer with Leadership Clarksville and is the current Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees for the Customs House Museum as well as serves as the Marketing and Membership Committee Chairperson. Ms. Durrett enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and pets as well as reading, writing, cooking, traveling and boating.
