TBA Law Blog

The Environmental Law Section continues to seek ways to be of service to environmental attorneys around the state.
In December, the Section hosted a three-hour CLE for environmental practitioners at the Tennessee Bar Center.  Topics covered included an overview of the Clean Water Act and Clean Air Act, Environmental Enforcement Issues, and Environmental Issues in Real Estate Transactions.  I would like to express my great appreciation to Catherine Anglin, Max Fleisher, Devin Wells, and Scott Thomas for their work to support this successful CLE program.  The responses we received from the attendees were very positive.  These three one-hour long courses are available to take via online video (you can utilize your 3 free hours of CLE credit that comes with your TBA membership).
The Section also selected a winner in its annual Jon Hastings Memorial Award Writing Competition.  Congratulations to William Airhart, Vanderbilt University Law School (class of 2012).  This writing competition sponsored by the Section is in memory of Jon Hastings, one of the founding members of the Section. William's paper is titled "After AEP: The Climate Change Tort and the Social Cost of Carbon." We’ve included an executive summary below, but I also encourage you to read his entire article on the section website:  https://www.tba.org/section/environmental-law-section.
And, of course, we would appreciate any feedback on how to make section membership more valuable.  We certainly encourage anyone who may have ideas for additions or modification to the Section website to please let us know. We are also seeking partnerships with other sections that may have areas that “overlap” with ours, such as Administrative Law Section, and hope to provide some joint activities/information soon.
