I hope you are enjoying your section membership.  Our Executive Council has been working hard to put together ideas for our annual General Practice Bootcamp and General Practice Summits for this year.  The 2013 General Practice Bootcamp will be held in Nashville on Thursday August 16 through Saturday August 18.  Participants can earn 15 total hours by attending the program at the Tennessee Bar Center.  Alternatively, our General Practice Summits will be held simultaneously in Knoxville and Memphis on Friday August 23.  We will have 7 hours of live presentations and 8 hours of online opportunities to earn 15 hours of CLE credit as well.  We are rapidly matching topics and speakers.  If you would be interested in speaking, please let me know and I will try to see if we have a topic you are interested in presenting.

If you have not read about this before, the Board of Professional Responsibility has filed a petition with the Tennessee Supreme Court, asking the Court to amend RPC 8.4 to add a new paragraph (h), making it professional misconduct for a lawyer to engage, in a professional capacity, in certain discriminatory conduct. The proposed new subsection 8.4(h) states “[i]t is professional misconduct for a lawyer to:...(h) engage in conduct, in a professional capacity, manifesting bias or prejudice based on race, sex, religion, national origin, disability, age, sexual orientation, or socio-economic status. Legitimate advocacy respecting the foregoing factors does not violate this provision.” Time is running out.  Written comments may be submitted to Mike Catalano, Clerk, Tennessee Appellate Courts, 100 Supreme Court Building, 401 7th Avenue North, Nashville, TN 37219-1407 by April 1, 2013  and should reference docket #M2013-00379-SC-RL1-RL.
