On May 21, 2013, Governor Haslam appointed Jim Henry as permanent Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services (DCS). Henry had served as Interim Commissioner since the resignation of Kate O’Day in February 2013, while continuing in his role as Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities (DIDD). Henry has been replaced as Commissioner of DIDD by Debra Payne.

In mid-April 2013, Henry announced changes to DCS’ organizational structure “aimed at elevating child safety, health and programming. The announcement follows a recently completed assessment of the department’s work.” Henry indicated that “the new structure will put the department on the path to improved performance by elevating our work around child safety.” More information may be found at the Department’s website.
