American Bar Association YLD – The group will hold its spring conference May 15-17 in Pittsburgh. Knoxville Bar Association Barristers – The Barristers will hold its next meeting May 14 at 5 p.m. at the Bistro by the Bijou. Cell Phone Drive – From May 12-26, the group will collect old phones, batteries and chargers to be donated to the Knoxville YWCA, which distributes the items to victims of domestic abuse for use in emergency situations. Pre-paid cell phones, which can be purchased for $10-$20, also are needed. This is a project of the Barristers Hunger & Poverty Relief Committee. Firms for Food – The Hunger & Poverty Relief Committee also is seeking a firm to volunteer for the Firms for Food initiative at Second Harvest on May 31. Approximately 10 volunteers are needed to sort food from 1 to 4 p.m. If your firm is interested, contact Ferguson or Parris with questions.

Charity Golf Tournament – The Barristers' Annual Golf Tournament is scheduled for Sept. 12 at Avalon Golf & Country Club. Spots for hole sponsors and beverage cart sponsors are available. Contact Brad Craig or Adam Moore for more information.

Memphis Bar Association YLD – The Memphis Bar YLD reports it has had a busy spring. In addition to the usual slate of happy hours and CLE programs, on April 16 the group hosted a Memphis Grizzlies Night and pre-game happy hour. Over 30 Memphis lawyers were on hand to cheer on the Griz as they defeated the Mavericks in the last regular season game of the year.

On April 17, the YLD organized and sponsored its annual pro bono project “Legal Lines on News Channel 3.” Legal Lines allows Memphis area residents to call in to the television station and speak to a volunteer lawyer. During the evening, dozens of Memphis Bar members were able to provide free legal services to hundreds of callers.

And on April 22, the YLD sponsored its monthly Veterans' Pro Bono Clinic at the Memphis VA. Eight volunteer attorneys provided pro bono legal services to 22 veterans. The clinic takes place on the fourth Tuesday of every month from noon to 2 p.m.

Upcoming events include the 3rd Annual Association for Women Attorneys (AWA) Foundation Golf Tournament set for May 30 and the MBA YLD Annual Charity Golf Tournament scheduled for Oct. 10 at The Links at Galloway. Nashville Bar Association YLD – The NBA YLD will support the Nashville Bar’s annual Golf Tournament, set for May 15 at Vanderbilt Legends Club. The event will feature range balls for practice starting at noon and a shotgun start at 1 p.m. A cookout and presentation of prizes for teams, individuals and memorable plays will take place after the tournament. Also in May, the group will participate in Nashville’s annual Arts Immersion event set for May 28 from 6 to 9 p.m. at W.O. Smith School of Music. The event will include an open bar, appetizers, musical guests, interactive art and a silent auction featuring local and artistic items. The official after-party will be held at the private club, Citizen, in the Gulch. Proceeds from both events will benefit Volunteer Lawyers & Professionals for the Arts.

Later in the summer, the YLD will hold its annual Carbolic Smoke Ball July 19 from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. in the Reverb Room at the Hard Rock Café.
