The Department of Justice (DOJ) Civil Rights Division is conducting in-person monitoring of polling place activities in Shelby County and 27 other jurisdictions during today’s general election. In addition, division staff are available by phone to receive complaints related to possible violations of federal voting rights laws. Those concerned should call (800) 253-3931. Individuals also may report complaints by email or via an online form. The department recommends that any complaints involving violence, threats of violence or intimidation first be reported to local police and then to the division.
