State Rep. Rick Womick, R-Rockvale, sent a letter to all 95 county clerks in Tennessee last week urging them to refuse to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, WBIR reports. In the letter, Womick argues that because only Congress and state legislators have the power to redefine a legally recognized marital contract in Tennessee, the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision is “void and unenforceable in the state.” He also issued a challenge to the justices, saying if they have a problem with his interpretation, they should “come down to Tennessee and try to enforce” the ruling.
