After weeks of litigation and thousands of dollars in legal fees, the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office has settled a case brought by American Atheists, the Times Free Press reports. The atheist group had sued over a religious Easter message posted on the sheriff’s official Facebook page. The group also alleged that the sheriff’s office deleted comments from and blocked accounts of those who criticized the message. Under the settlement, the sheriff’s office did not admit wrongdoing but agreed not to promote any religion or religious organization, event or belief on its page. The county will pay $15,000 in damages and $26,000 in attorney’s fees.
