The National Conference of Bar Examiners reports that nationwide there was a slight increase over last year in scores on the July bar exam, though some states saw declines. In Tennessee, results from the July 2016 exam showed the passage rate fell by just over one point from a year earlier, to 63.1 percent. California saw a drop from 46.6 percent in 2015 to 43 percent. New York, by contrast, saw a four percent increase. Legal observers attribute that to the state’s adoption of the Uniform Bar Exam this year. The ABA Journal looks at the trends.
