Members of the Metro Nashville Council will vote at their meeting tonight on a measure that would ask the city to stop investing money from its employee pension fund into for-profit prisons, WPLN reports. Councilwoman Erica Gilmore said the city has nearly $1 million invested in CoreCivic, the Nashville-based private prison company. The city disputes that claim. Supporters of the measure cite numerous reports of mismanagement and neglect that have dogged CoreCivic for several years.
