Gov. Bill Haslam today granted Edmund Zagorski a 10-day reprieve for his execution, mere hours before the death row inmate was scheduled to die, The Tennessean reports. Haslam cited a federal court’s decision Thursday staying the execution and giving Zagorski a hearing on his decision to choose electrocution instead of the state’s standard lethal injection protocol. District Judge Aleta Trauger today issued a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction barring the state from executing him by lethal injection.
