Thinking about trying meditation but don't know where or how to start? Scientific studies of meditation have shown its overwhelming benefits — changes the gray matter in your brain in such a way that stress, anxiety, depression and sleep disorders are reduced, and memory, awareness, productivity, and a sense of wellbeing are increased. Instead of starting with something too hard to fit into your already busy schedule, try just a single minute. Find a comfortable place to sit, and feel the sensation of the breath moving in and out of your body. Each time you realize you're lost in thought, bring your attention back to your breathing. Your goal isn't to stop your thoughts, it's to train your brain not to get caught up in them. Over time, it will become easier and you will notice the effect in your everyday life. As you notice the benefits, you will likely want to increase the amount of time you meditate. But start with one minute – everyone has time for that.
