Former Shelby County Democratic Party chair Corey Strong is challenging U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen in the August 2020 Democratic Congressional primary, the Daily Memphian reports. Strong announced his candidacy today, one year to the day since Democratic candidates swept every countywide race in the 2018 county general elections and voters elected eight Democrats to the 13-member Shelby County Commission. As party chairman, Strong was instrumental in recruiting candidates and organizing the Democratic effort to reverse a similar Republican sweep in the 2010 and 2014 county elections.
