Tennessee Attorney General Herbert Slatery has asked the state Supreme Court to set execution dates for nine death row inmates, the Commercial Appeal reports. The federal public defender’s office, which has a unit focused on fighting executions, condemned the “request for mass executions” noting that seven of the men are represented by public defenders. Those included in the request are Byron Black, Tony V. Carruthers, Henry Eugene Hodges, Donald Ray Middlebrooks, Farris Genner Morris, Harold Wayne Nichols, Pervis Tyrone Payne, Oscar Franklin Smith and Gary Wayne Sutton.
