Position’s primary focus will be in the area of environmental law.



  • Under minimal supervision, attends to matters of legal complexity and assists senior attorney(s) as needed.
  • Prepares and reviews contracts and other legal documents in connection with UCOR’s operations, technology, or business.
  • Assists in conducting legal investigations, negotiations, and research preparatory to defending the organization in potential or actual lawsuits.
  • Serve as primary legal  interface with environmental regulatory agencies,
  • Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations related to the environment
  • May provide legal advice with respect to administration and prepare resolution and forms.
  • Studies proposed and existing legislation, searching legal references, and preparing draft opinions where there is a substantial amount of clearly applicable case material.
  • May review and approve advertising copy and public statements from a legal standpoint.
  • Assists and participates in major legal actions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

NOTE:   Candidates eligible for 3161 status must so indicate on their résumé or cover sheet and provide a copy of their 3161 Preference-In-Hiring Eligibility form with each résumé.  Section 3161 of the National Defense Authorization Act requires UCOR to give preference-in-hiring to qualified 3161 eligible displaced Department of Energy (DOE) contractor employees before other external hiring on DOE-funded work takes place.

Required Experience:

Job-Related Qualifications Required:

  • J.D. from accredited school
  • 5-7 years of legal experience
  • Maintains membership in at least one Bar Association of any state in the US.
  • Familiar with contract, procurement, and business operations of the company (preferred)
  • Exposure to or familiarity with the following areas of law: environmental, securities, labor, antitrust, computer law, and privacy (preferred)
  • Ability to obtain a DOE Q security clearance (preferred)
  • Working knowledge of the Earned Value Management System (EVMS) process (preferred)
  • Familiarity and understanding of the DOE EM budget process (preferred)
