Edward Stanton III's federal court nomination now moves to the full Senate following Wednesday's vote by the Senate Judiciary Committee, the Commercial Appeal reports. With backing from the state's two senators, the Memphis attorney is likely to win approval whenever a vote is held. That could be a while, however. Senate Republicans have been slow to confirm President Barack Obama's judicial nominees, including two other Tennessee District Court candidates -- Travis McDonough of Chattanooga and Waverly Crenshaw Jr. of Nashville. Both have been waiting for close to a year for a Senate vote.
