Position Description:

The Compliance Counsel reports to the University Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer and is the primary contact for the university’s legal and regulatory compliance programs. In your capacity as Compliance Counsel, you will ensure that the university complies with relevant state and federal laws and regulations. This includes staying abreast of legal and regulatory developments, interpreting laws and regulations in the context of the university’s operations, and ensuring that key personnel are informed of the laws and regulations applicable to their duties.


Required Skills:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Proficient in Westlaw or LexisNexis research.
  • Proficient in LegalFiles or other case management software platform.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work in a collaborative environment, and ability to be a part of a team.
  • Demonstrated leadership and organization abilities.
  • Exceptional analytical skills.
Required Experience:
  • Two (2) or more years’ experience in drafting and reviewing policies and procedures in a higher education or corporate institution.
  • A record of representing and advising governmental departments and agencies.
  • Two (2) or more years’ experience practicing higher education law.
  • Familiarity with State of Tennessee Administrative Procedures Act.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the mediation of disputes.
