Position Description:

The Paralegal provides contract and legal document drafting, management and review; legal research and writing on a wide range of topics; legislative tracking to identify and support implementation of legal and regulatory changes that impact business operations; and support for management of litigation filed against the company. This role reports to the VP, General Counsel.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Research and draft documents, written opinions and recommendations for internal departmental customers regarding a wide range of legal issues and regulatory policies and processes
  • Establish and maintain a repository of information on laws, rules, regulations and court decisions that impact Acceptance’s business operations
  • Track proposed and/or final legal and rule changes as well as other significant regulatory events as they occur and alert key staff as necessary 
  • Manage responses to subpoenas and other authorized requests for company records and documents
  • Assist with contract reviews and drafting
  • Support numerous and varied business initiatives and projects
  • Assist with employment related matters such as EEOC, ADA, FMLA and similar complaints and inquiries
  • Provide litigation management support for litigated matters filed against the company
  • Assist with management and review of legal billing from outside counsel
  • Organize documents and information for financial, market conduct, and other similar regulatory examinations of business operations and practices
  • Assist with preparation and submission of routine filings with state insurance regulators
  • Other activities and duties as assigned
Required Experience:
  • A minimum of two years of experience in a law firm or in-house corporate legal department handling contracts, electronic discovery, subpoenas, and legal research and writing
  • Certificate from ABA accredited paralegal program is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Experience managing electronic discovery
  • Experience working in property and casualty insurance industry a plus
  • Attention to detail and ability to effectively organize and prioritize tasks
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex messages to diverse audiences, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to establish rapport and effective working relationships with business partners, supervisors and peers
  • Demonstrated strong project management skills with ability to manage multiple projects and tight timelines
  • Ability to draft effective legal documents and correspondence
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Notary Public or willing to be licensed
