Criminal Charges Stemmed from Nurse Overriding Saftey Precautions, DA Says

The former nurse at Vanderbilt University Medical Center facing criminal charges for allegedly killing an elderly patient with a medication error was charged because she bypassed safeguards at one of the hospital’s medicine dispensing cabinets, the Tennessean reports. “There were safeguards in place that were overridden,” Davidson County District Attorney spokesman Steve Hayslip said in an email statement. “By the definition of ‘reckless,’ the defendant’s actions justify the charge.”
