Judge Denies New Trial for Christian-Newsome Killer

A Knoxville judge last week shot down a bid for a new trial by the convicted ringleader in the January 2007 torture slayings of Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom, Knox News reports. Lemaricus Davidson, currently on death row for the killings, tried to convince Senior Judge Walter Kurtz to toss his conviction and death sentence after another killer, George Thomas, claimed that Eric Boyd killed Newsom. Thomas had taken a secret deal to testify against Boyd, the last of five suspects to face trial in the case. Kurtz found the testimony did not merit a new trial or new sentencing hearing for Davidson.
