There are a number of ceremonies planned across the state this week and beyond to recognize retiring court and judicial officials and install new judges and other court officers in their positions. Here's a roundup as of Sept. 2:

Monday, Aug. 25

• Retirement reception honoring Nashville Circuit Court Judge Carol Soloman for 16 years on the bench of the Eighth Circuit will be Monday at 3 p.m. in the Historic Davidson County Courthouse Jury Assembly Room.

• New judicial officials of the Third Judicial District will take their oaths of office in a ceremony at Bulls Gap Town Hall at 7 p.m. on Monday. Tennessee Supreme Court Chief Justice Gary Wade will administer oaths of office to the following. Read a report from the ceremony in the Greeneville Sun.

• Davidson County General Sessions Retirement Celebration will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Jury Assembly Room of the Justice A. A. Birch Building to honor:

• A reception for Franklin City Judge Tom Taylor will be held Tuesday afternoon to recognize his 27 years of service. Taylor was recently elected to the Williamson County General Sessions Court (Division II). Read a report from the event in the Williamson Herald.

• Friends and colleagues will celebrate the career of Knox County Circuit Court Judge Bill Swann, who is retiring. The event will take place Tuesday from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at Club LeConte.

Wednesday, Aug. 27

• Swearing-In Ceremony for Davidson County Criminal Court judges will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. on the 6th Floor of the Justice A.A. Birch Building. A reception will take place immediately following. Those being sworn in include:

• Circuit Court Judge Judge Forest Durard will swear in District Attorney Robert Carter and assistant district attorneys Amber Sandoval, Eddie Bernard, William "Bud" Bottoms, Holly Eubanks, Janice Y. Brown and Joseph Johnson on Wednesday at the Lincoln County Courthouse in Shelbyville. See a photo in the Elk Valley Times.

• Tennessee Supreme Court Justice Jeffrey Bivins will administer the oath of office to Williamson County Juvenile Court Judge Sharon Guffee, District Attorney General Kim Helper, Circuit Court Clerk Debbie Barrett, Juvenile Court Clerk Brenda Hyden and Register of Deeds Sadie Wade Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the historic courthouse in downtown Franklin. • Friends and supporters are invited to a reception to honor Knox County Chancellor Daryl R. Fansler on Wednesday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Bistro by the Bijou. Light hors d'oeuvres will be served and a cash bar will be available. Financial contributions toward the cost of the celebration may be sent in advance or contributed at the event.

Thursday, Aug. 28

• Swearing-in ceremony for Glenn R . Funk as the new 20th Judicial District Attorney General will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Nashville's War Memorial Auditorium. Read a report of the event from the Tennessean.

• Swearing-in ceremony for Tom Taylor as a new Williamson County General Sessions Judge (Division II) will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at the county judicial center.

• Swearing-in ceremony for county and district officials in the Eighth Judicial District will be held Thursday. Tennessee State Supreme Court Justice Gary Wade will administer the oaths. Those being sworn in include Public Defender Leif Jeffers, District Attorney Jared Effler, Chancellor Elizabeth Asbury, Circuit Court Judge John McAfee and Criminal Court Judge Shayne Sexton. • Swearing-in ceremony for newly elected Circuit Court Judge Kyle Atkins will be Thursday at the Madison County Criminal Justice Complex. Atkins was elected this month to the court's Division 3, which includes Madison, Chester and Henderson counties.

• Swearing-in ceremony for Davidson County Juvenile Court Judge Sheila Calloway will be held Thursday at 5 p.m. at the Temple Church, 3810 Kings Lane in Nashville.

Friday, Aug. 29

• Newly-elected District Attorney General Dan Armstrong, who will take over from retiring Berkeley Bell, will be sworn in Friday at 8 a.m. in the Criminal Courtroom of the Greene County Courthouse in Greeneville. See a photo in the Rogersville Review.

Bradley County judges will be sworn into office Friday at 9 a.m. at the county courthouse. Following that event, judges in the 10th Judicial District will be sworn in at the McMinn County and Monroe County courthouses and the Polk County Justice Center. • Swearing-In Ceremony for 21st Judicial District Public Defender Vanessa Pettigrew Bryan will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Hickman County Courthouse in Centerville. Retiring General Sessions Judge Sam Smith will administer the oath of office. It will be his last official duty after a law career that spans more than 50 years.

•  Recently elected judges of the 19th Judicial District will be sworn into office on Friday at 11:45 a.m. in Courtroom #406 of the Courts Complex located at 2 Millennium Plaza in Clarksville. Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals Judge Robert W. Wedemeyer will administer the oath of office. Those being sworn in include:

•  Hamilton County Chancellor W. Frank Brown III will be honored at a retirement reception at noon on Friday. The event will be held at the county courthouse, 625 Georgia Ave., in Chattanooga. •  Anderson County Criminal and Circuit Court Judge Don Elledge will be sworn into office at a ceremony Friday at noon. Anderson County Chancellor Bill Lantrip will administer the oath of office. Read a report from the event in Knoxnews.

•  A joint swearing-in of 13th Judicial District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway and Public Defender Craig Fickling will take place Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the Putnam County Justice Center.

•  On Friday, incumbent and newly elected judges in Knox County will be sworn in during a ceremony at 2 p.m. at the Supreme Court Building in Knoxville. KBA President Wade Davies will preside over the event. Tennessee Supreme Court Chief Justice Gary Wade will swear in 12  judges as well as Public Defender Mark Stephens. Circuit Court Clerk Cathy Shanks and new Circuit Court Division I Judge Kristi Davis will be sworn in by retiring Judge Joe Tipton of the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals. District Attorney General Charme Allen will have the oath administered by Judge Steve Sword. General Sessions Court Judge Chuck Cerny will be sworn in by Judge Bob McGee. • First Judicial District judges will be sworn into office on Friday at 4 p.m. Circuit Court Judge Thomas Seeley will administer the oath of office to fellow Judge Jean Stanley and Public Defender Jeff Kelly. Retired Judge Arden Hill will give the oath to District Attorney General Tony Clark. Stanley will administer the oath to all other judges. Read a report from the event in the Johnson City Press.

• Judge Robert L. Holloway Jr., previously a Circuit Court judge for the 22nd Judicial District in Columbia, will take the oath of office on Friday for a seat on the Tennessee Criminal Court of Appeals. He was appointed to the post and initially took the oath on Thursday but learned the procedure had not been administered properly. See a photo from the event in the Columbia Daily Herald.

• Louis Oliver III will be sworn in as a new Sumner County Chancellor on Friday. Read more about him in the Tennessean.

• 12th Judicial District Circuit Court Judge Justin Angel will take the oath of office Friday evening. Read more about Justin, one of the youngest people to hold a trial judge post in Tennessee, in the Times Free Press.

Saturday, Aug. 30

Putnam County General Sessions Court Judge-elect Steve Qualls (Part I) and Judge John Hudson (Part II) will be sworn in Saturday at 10 a.m. in the county commission chambers on the third floor of the Putnam County Courthouse.

Sunday, Aug. 31

• Ninth Judicial District Circuit Court Judge-elect Mike Pemberton will be sworn into office Sunday. He plans to take his oath with other Roane County officials during a 2:30 p.m. ceremony at the courthouse.

• Judicial officers will be sworn in on Sunday in Dyer County by Chancellor Judge Tony Childress. General Sessions Judge Jason Hudson will conduct the swearing-in of Childress prior to the other officials. Those being given the oath include: Read a report from the Star Gazette.
