Herron to Step Down, Questions Court's AG Decision

Tennessee Democratic Party Chairman Roy Herron told the party’s state executive committee Saturday he will not run for a second term in January, the Memphis Commercial Appeal reports. Herron also revealed publicly for the first time that the party spent $300,000 in the closing days of the judicial elections to help three Democratic justices retain their seats. Given that support, Herron said he was “heavily disappointed” that the justices replaced Robert Cooper as state attorney general. “We had an extraordinarily capable attorney general. It pains me what they have done. I’m praying they will not disappoint us further.” Herron said he now plans to refocus on “making a living, helping put three boys through graduate school [and] doing…charitable work.”
