At the TBA YLD Annual Meeting on June 19, members of the division approved several amendments to the group’s governing bylaws, including replacing in-person voting for elected positions at the Annual Meeting in June with electronic voting in the spring.

Under the new process, notice of elections will be given in the December issue of E-DICT with nomination petitions due Feb. 15, 2016. After the filing deadline, candidates unopposed would be deemed elected. Notice of contested races will be given in the February 2016 issue of E-DICT. Electronic voting and certification of vote results will mirror the process employed by the TBA. If no candidate is nominated, the YLD Executive Committee will nominate a member of the division for the position by March 15, 2016. In the event of a tie vote during electronic voting, the voting members of the Board, except for the president, will elect one of the members nominated for the position. In the event of a tie vote of the Board, the president will break the tie.

Other changes adopted include requiring those running for an Executive Committee position to file an election petition signed by 25 TBA members; creating a new process for filling a vacancy in the office of the president if the president-elect is not able or willing to serve; and providing authority for the president to remove an elected Board member for cause. Learn more about these provisions and see a redline version of the changes on the YLD website.
