Knowing what issues are being discussed among leadership is a vital part of being a member of the TBA. Many young lawyers have a unique take on current topics in the legal community, but too often don't voice their experiences and sometimes, don't even know the proper procedure to do so.

Young lawyers are currently serving throughout the TBA in leadership positions. For those looking to become more active in TBA's decision-making process, reaching out to the YLD members in the House of Delegates is a good place to start. Young lawyers currently serving in the House include:

Bryce McKenzie, (865) 428-8780
Nina Kumar, (615) 664-5300
Nicole Grida, (901) 748-6070

The ABA will have its House of Delegates meeting in January, and a preliminary agenda is available online. The ABA House of Delegates representative from the TBA YLD is Troy Weston.

Additionally, the TBA Board of Governors has five representatives who are YLD members. They are:

Brian Winfrey, (615) 601-1276 (Secretary)
Rachel Moses, (931) 528-7436
Rachel Mancl, (423) 283-6319
David McDowell, (423) 756-5171 (3rd District Governor)
Nathan Shelby, (731) 425-7949 (West Tennessee Governor)

Questions about public policy issues or specific bills can be directed to YLD Public Policy Chair, Will Hicky. Additionally, YLD member Meagan Frazier serves as the TBA's Government Affairs Committee Chair. For information about the TBA's positions on statewide legislation, visit TBAImpact.

Decisions made both within the TBA and at the state legislature can affect and change the profession. Stay informed so change doesn't happen to you, but because of you.
