Volunteers Needed for Law Camp in Nashville

Law Camp for middle and high school students returns to Lipscomb University June 6-10 and the TBA will again be a partner in the effort. 

Based on the American Bar Association's Civics & Law Academy program, the camp will engage students in learning about law and society, helping to prepare them to be participants in our democratic socity. 

TBA staff and volunteers are working closely with Lipscomb University’s Institute for Law, Justice & Society to organize and deliver sessions throughout the week-long camp, held on the university's campus in Nashville. This annual event is designed to engage students using basic legal concepts and to expose them to various aspects of the legal profession. (See photos and read about last year's Law Camp on the TBA website.)
 
This year, Law Camp will focus on on the "Law and Justice" pathway. The TBA still needs volunteers for several sessions. If you are interested, contact Public Education Coordinator Katharine Heriges. Many of the materials, such as worksheets or Power Point presentations, have already been produced for these topics, so volunteers do not have to create all new resources.
 
Here is a draft Law Camp agenda with times and topics. Please take a look and let us know when you are interested in presenting. 
 
MONDAY, JUNE 6
1:30 - 2:45pm - Session II: What are the Goals of Corrective Justice
2:45 - 4pm - Session III: What is Procedural Justice
 
TUESDAY, JUNE 7
Noon - 2:00pm - LUNCH at the Tennessee Bar Center
3:30 – 4:30pm – Session V: Current Issues and Distributive Justice
 
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 8
8:30 - 9:30am - Session IV: Topic TBD
 
THURSDAY, JUNE 9
8:30 – 10am – Session VI: The Rights of the Accused
10:15 – 12noon – Session VII: MINI MOCK TRIALS (Will need up to 3 volunteers to help judge/moderate)
 
FRIDAY, JUNE 10
8:45am - 10:00am AND 10:15 - 11:15am - MINI MOCK TRIALS (Will need up to 3 volunteers to help judge/moderate)
11:30am - 1:00pm - Recognition Lunch & Celebration
