YLD Invited Guest News for May 2016

The TBA YLD Board invites specialty and minority bars in the state to name a representative to serve as an unfunded and non-voting member of the board. The goal of the invited guest program is to increase diversity among the board and provide an opportunity for young lawyers involved in other legal organizations to have a voice in the state bar association. See a list of all organizations invited to send representatives.
 
Association for Women Attorneys (AWA) – The AWA will be having the Mary Wolff Memorial Golf Tournament to carry on the philanthropic legacy of one of its strongest members, Mary Wolff, who passed away on Christmas Eve 2015 after a battle with cancer. The Mary Wolff Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, June 3, 2016, at The Links at Galloway (lunch served at noon, shotgun start at 1 p.m., four person scramble). The proceeds will benefit three charitable organizations: The First Tee of Memphis; The AWA Foundation Scholarship Fund; and the Women’s Foundation of Greater Memphis.  To register or for more information about this great event please contact Mary-Morgan Whitfield at 901.277.8120 or visit the website.

East Tennessee Lawyers Association for Women (ETLAW) – Just two days before the TBI publicized that 32 individuals in Knoxville had been arrested in a human trafficking operation, ETLAW’s monthly meeting featured a discussion on Human Trafficking Awareness in East Tennessee by Brooklyn Sawyers, Esq., an Assistant U.S. Attorney, FBI Special Agent Cynthia Deitle and Kate Trudell of the Community Coalition Against Human Trafficking.
 
Because of the date conflict with the TBA convention, ETLAW will not be hosting a monthly meeting in June.  Please join us Wednesday, July 20, 2016, 12:00 – 1:30 p.m. at the downtown Knoxville YWCA with guest speaker Senator Doug Overby, who will provide his annual Legislative Update.  Lunch will be available at a cost of $10.  Register at www.etlawtn.org.
