YLD Invited Guest News for June 2016

The TBA YLD Board invites specialty and minority bars in the state to name a representative to serve as an unfunded and non-voting member of the board. The goal of the invited guest program is to increase diversity among the board and provide an opportunity for young lawyers involved in other legal organizations to have a voice in the state bar association. See a list of all organizations invited to send representatives.
 
Association for Women Attorneys (AWA) – The AWA recently held a successful golf tournament will with the proceeds benefiting three charitable organizations.

East Tennessee Lawyers Association for Women (ETLAW) – Join ETLAW Wednesday, July 20, 12 – 1:30 p.m. at the downtown Knoxville YWCA for ETLAW’s Monthly Meeting. Guest speaker Senator Doug Overby will provide his annual Legislative Update. Lunch will be available at a cost of $10. Register at www.etlawtn.org.

For the 8th year, ETLAW will have a team for the Knoxville Race for the Cure. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, October 22. The team is open to all members of ETLAW, their friends, family and co-workers of all ages. With registration, you will receive a long-sleeved race t-shirt from Komen.  To be part of ETLAW’s team, click on “Join this team” and go through the registration steps. Include your email address for updates and messages from the Team Captain, Wynne Caffey. If the team’s registration link does not work, go to www.komenknoxville.org, then these steps: “Events," “Race for the Cure," “Register” and “Join a Team.” Create an account or log in as a former participant. You will then be asked to find the team, which is “East Tennessee Lawyers’ Association for Women.” All registrations and donations are made through Komen’s secure site. Komen will provide a receipt for tax purposes for any donation over the registration fee.

National Bar Association, S.L. Hutchins Chapter – The NBA S.L. Hutchins Chapter in Chattanooga recently held a successful Happy Hour which was well attended by lawyers and judges last week to welcome all summer interns. The chapter is currently planning a Law Camp for high schools in October.

Southeast Tennessee Lawyers’ Association for Women (SETLAW) – SETLAW will be participating in a Habitat for Humanity Build this Saturday, June 4.  SETLAW will have its next happy hour event tonight, June 30, at Matilda Midnight from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and summer clerks are welcome to come!  Please join SETLAW for a lunch and learn meeting to discuss Intellectual Property law on July 14.  This year’s Lioness of the Bar event will be held on August 11, 2016 with more details to come.

Tennessee Lawyers Association for Women (TLAW) – TLAW recently held its Annual Meeting and Breakfast on June 17 in Nashville. TLAW is currently seeking committee members and chairs for committees. The CLE Committee is seeking a chair which is responsible for organizing continuing legal education courses, preparing the evaluations, and submitting CLE forms for credit to the Tennessee Commission on Continuing Legal Education. Generally, there are at least two CLEs during the year in addition to the TLAW Convention. The Annual Meeting Committee is seeking a chair which is responsible for organizing the annual TLAW meeting held during the convention in June each year. The committee arranges the TLAW breakfast, coordinates events, prepares and invites the judiciary and other dignitaries, and assists with arranging gifts for speakers. The committee is also responsible for the annual meeting budget and arranging sponsorships for the annual meeting. The Standing committees are also seeking committee members.
