On Tape: Official Says Law School Paid Students Not to Take Bar

An assistant dean at the Charlotte School of Law was caught on tape saying that the institution’s bar passage rates, already the lowest in the state of North Carolina, would have been even lower if struggling students were not paid to skip the bar exam, WFAE radio reports. Bar passage rates for the school for February 2015 were reported at 42 percent, but according to the recorded official Odessa Alm, the rate would have been in the 20s were it not for paying 21 students to defer and enter a bar preparation program. Charlotte School of Law is currently on probation with the American Bar Association, and earlier this month learned that it would no longer receive federal funding.
