Gov. Bill Haslam has officially called for a special election to replace former state senator Mae Beavers, who resigned to focus on her bid for the Republican nomination for governor, The Tennessean reports. The primary for the special election will be held on Nov. 7, with the general election on Dec. 19. Candidates can pick up their petitions immediately, and the qualifying deadline is noon on Sept. 28. So far, Rep. Mark Pody is the only candidate to officially declare his candidacy to replace Beavers.
