Shelby County officials are looking for a location for a new juvenile detention facility after saying that constructing a new building could not be finished in time to meet a federal deadline to stop housing minors in adult facilities. According to the Daily Memphian, county commissioners recently toured the former Shelby Training Center in southeast Memphis to review the property’s potential. The total cost to buy and renovate the center is estimated between $14 and $16 million. The county previously budgeted $25 million to build a new facility on Adams Ave.
