Federal authorities announced Friday that Cookeville Regional Medical Center (CRMC) has agreed to settle a false claims suit by paying $4.1 million, the Herald Citizen reports. The settlement resolves allegations by the United States and State of Tennessee that from January 2012 to December 2017, CRMC submitted false claims for payment to Medicare and TennCare. The case was initiated after a whistleblower came forward with information about the payments. The whistleblower now will receive $779,000 from the settlement.
