Vanderbilt University Law School students participating in the Stanton Foundation First Amendment Clinic recently scored a victory for the Human Rights Defense Center (HRDC), a prison rights advocacy organization. With the students’ assistance, HRDC filed a federal lawsuit against the Marshall County Jail, challenging the sheriff’s decision to withhold magazines the center had sent to inmates. The center won a preliminary injunction against the sheriff and ultimately the case was settled, ensuring that HRDC’s publications will be provided to inmates.
