The owner of a popular barbecue restaurant in Nashville slammed Mayor John Cooper’s proposed 32% property tax increase, saying it could be devastating to small businesses and restaurants already reeling from the COVID-19 crisis, the Nashville Business Journal reports. Carey Bringle, owner of Peg Leg Porker, decried the increase in an open letter, saying that it would make his monthly property tax obligation higher than the initial mortgage payments he made when he purchased the property in 2012. Cooper’s self-described "enormous" property tax hike is an effort to recover an estimated $472 million loss in revenue for the city due to the pandemic.
