The Tennessee Bar Association’s Criminal Justice Section Executive Council is seeking volunteer lawyers to assist with the section’s annual Crim Law Day initiative for law school students. Last year’s event, featuring a panel of lawyers discussing criminal law practice and breakout Q&A rooms for students, was very well received by attendees from the Lincoln Memorial University Duncan School of Law. The students greatly appreciated the attorneys’ participation and insight.

Because of last year’s highly successful program, the upcoming Crim Law Day has grown to include the University of Tennessee College of Law — in addition to the Duncan School of Law — with an expected attendance of around 240 law students. Needless to say, the increased attendance has created a need for even more volunteer lawyers.

The program will take place via Zoom on Tuesday, Nov. 17, with sessions from 8 to 9:30 a.m. and noon to 1:30 p.m. EST. It will feature a general discussion panel of defense lawyers and prosecutors, followed by breakout sessions where students will be paired with an attorney mentor to discuss hypotheticals and ask questions. Those who are available and willing to assist with one or both of these time slots, should contact Criminal Justice Section Coordinator Jarod Word at jword@tnbar.org.
