Bio:
Heidi A. Barcus has been involved in complex litigation involving the areas of professional negligence, medical defense, health care law, long term care, prison health and a wide range of insurance matters in Kentucky and Tennessee state and federal courts. 
 
She has successfully defended physicians, nurses, chiropractors, medical directors and midlevel providers in trial and mediation. She is certified as a specialist in Medical Professional Liability by the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys. Ms. Barcus has been awarded the very highest distinction (A.V.) in Martindale-Hubbell's legal ratings.
 
She is a 1993 graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Law, where she has previously taught legal writing, pre-trial litigation and trial practice. She is an active member of the University of Tennessee Legal Clinic Advisory Board, the Hamilton Burnett American Inns of Court and an alumnus of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She was the recipient of the Spirit of Justice Award, the Susan B. Anthony Award and a member of the 2005 Tennessee Law Leadership Class as well as a 2001 graduate of Leadership Knoxville. She is a member of the Federal of Defense and Corporate Counsel.
 
Prior to joining Lewis Thomason, she was a partner at London Amburn for 23 years. She was also Assistant General Counsel at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, representing the hospital in all aspects of litigation including medical malpractice claims and employment disputes. Her service to the Knoxville community has included Community Mediation Center mediator, St. John's Cathedral Board of Directors, James White Fort Board, East Tennessee Juvenile Diabetes Board, Helen Ross McNabb Board and Knoxville Botanical Garden Board. She is a on the Tennessee Bar Association Board of Governors, past President of the Knoxville Bar Association, and serves as panel counsel for the Board of Professional Responsibility. Currently, she is a member of the Supreme Court Access to Justice Pro Bono Committee and is Chair of the American Bar Association Law Practice Division.  She has served as Editor-in-Chief of the ABA Law Practice Magazine. She is also a lifetime member of the Sixth Circuit Judicial Conference. She is a Knoxville Bar Association Fellow, a Tennessee Bar Association Fellow, and an American Bar Association Fellow. The Knoxville CityView magazine designated her as a Top Attorney in 2009.
 
She enjoys road biking, mountain biking and kayaking on the Hiwassee river.
