Issues Facing In-house Lawyers: A Panel Discussion

Presented by the TBA Committee on Racial and Ethnic Diversity, this free webinar will cover the legal environment of in-house counsel. Panelists will cover the life of an in-house attorney in government, corporation and educational institution settings. Participants will describe how they manage outside counsel, work-life balance and the forever changing legal landscape. Considerations such as the closeness of clients and expectations of response time will also be discussed. One hour of general CLE credit is available for a $50 processing fee.
Faculty Bios
CHRISTINA MAGRANS-TILLERY is an attorney with the City of Knoxville Law Department, representing the city in all litigation and provides legal advice and representation to the mayor and to all city departments. Magrans-Tillery also provides legal advice and consultation to city officials, boards, agencies and prepares the agenda for City Council meetings. Prior to this role, she was an attorney with Legal Aid of East Tennessee where her work focused on housing law including discrimination under Fair Housing and the Violence Against Women Act. She previously worked with the Tennessee Supreme Court Access to Justice Program to cultivate, monitor and publicize new pro bono initiatives; maintained a statewide directory of pro bono programs; worked with bar associations, attorneys and the judiciary to recruit new pro bono volunteers; and helped implement the commission’s strategic plan.
RYAN BROWN has been general counsel for Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) since 2020. LMU’s Office of General Counsel manages all legal matters affecting LMU and its undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs. Brown advises LMU’s President and campus partners on a wide range of matters, including but not limited to contracts, employment law, and academic and student affairs. He is also an adjunct law professor at LMU’s Duncan School of Law, where he teaches Education Law, an upper-level seminar course. Before LMU, he worked for 12 years in private practice at a Louisiana law firm. Mr. Brown also worked in the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
PATRICK MORRIS is a graduate of the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at the Louisiana State University. Morris is currently Senior Attorney at Fedex, a position he has held for nearly two years now. Before that he was an attorney at the Memphis office of the venerable regional law firm of Adams and Reese LLP.
