This program, hosted by the TBA Animal Law Section, is focused on an unfortunately common scenario – the discovery and rescue of large numbers of neglected, suffering animals in need of immediate medical care, and the corresponding and often complex legal consequences of these lifesaving efforts. In this informative program, you will see and hear firsthand about the related rescues in Carroll and Putnam counties of over 200 animals of many species, cruelly treated and then saved by a collaboration between Animal Rescue Corps, Redemption Road Rescue and local authorities, and the protracted legal battle and multiple court actions that followed. The panelists will provide first-hand experiences from the scenes of the crimes, including on the role of veterinarians and forensic evidence, and discuss important laws, known as cost-of-care statutes, which are designed to alleviate some of the negative impact of these situations on local municipalities and rescue groups.
Panelists include animal law practitioner Bruce Wagman at Riley Safer Holmes & Cancila in San Francisco, and Executive Director at Animal Rescue Corps Tim Woodward. TBA Animal Law Section Chair and General Counsel of Mercy for Animals Daina Bray will moderate.
This free event is open to everyone and will take place virtually via Zoom, with connection info sent the week of the program. One hour of TN CLE credit is available upon request at a fee of $45 for TBA members. An optional 30-minute Q&A will follow the webinar.
