Bill Cosby was sentenced today to three to 10 years in prison for sexually assaulting a woman 14 years ago, The New York Times reports. Judge Steven T. O’Neill also upheld a state board’s decision to recognize Cosby as a “sexually violent predator,” so he must register as a sex offender. Prosecutors had asked that he receive the maximum sentence of 10 years. Cosby will head straight to prison as the judge denied his request to remain free on bail while he pursues an appeal.

Administrative Office of the Courts Director Deborah Taylor Tate has been named the recipient of End Slavery Tennessee’s 2018 Human Trafficking Impact Award. The award was presented to Tate in recognition of her many contributions over the years to the prevention and confrontation of human trafficking in Tennessee. Those contributions include her work with the AOC, as well as with numerous other organizations, such as the Human Trafficking Advisory Council and the Tennessee Domestic Violence State Coordinating Council. The AOC has made the fight against human trafficking a priority. Amid conflicting reports that he would resign or be fired early this morning, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein remains at his post, with a meeting scheduled with the president for Thursday. The Washington Examiner reports that whether Rosenstein is ultimately fired by President Trump or if he resigns is an important distinction, thanks to the Federal Vacancies Reform Act of 1998. If Rosenstein were to resign, the president would have broad authority over who the acting replacement would be. However, the language of the law does not provide for if an official is fired, and there is no court precedent to reference, leaving Trump’s authority to appoint a successor in question.
