Rutherford County Mayor Bill Ketron could face legal action from Attorney General Herbert Slatery for $60,000 in unpaid civil penalties to the Tennessee Registry of Election Finance, the Daily News Journal reports. The Tennessee AG's office says it is prepared to file a lawsuit if the penalties are not paid within the next few weeks. Ketron has six $10,000 civil penalties from the Tennessee Registry of Election Finance for failing to file required documentation by 2018 deadlines on campaign finance records.

Coffee County District Attorney Craig Northcott should be disqualified from handling a case involving Tennessee House Speaker Glen Casada because of his role in lobbying the legislature, as well as his anti-Muslim, anti-LGBT and racially insensitive views, a new court filing argues. NewsChannel5 reports that the motion was filed by the lawyer for student activist Justin Jones, who faces assault and disorderly conduct charges for allegedly throwing a cup onto an elevator with Casada and other lawmakers back in February. Northcott was assigned as a special prosecutor after allegations surfaced that the Speaker's Office may have doctored an email in an effort to frame Jones.

Putnam County lawyer Elizabeth Ann Shipley today received a public censure from the Board of Professional Responsibility of the Tennessee Supreme Court. In the first disciplinary complaint, Shipley was tardy in the payment of restitution to a former client, which had been a condition of an earlier public censure. The second disciplinary complaint arose out of an overdraft on Shipley’s trust account.  On Oct. 22, 2018, Shipley received $500 from clients in connection with a custody case. She initially deposited the funds into escrow, but later transferred them to her operating account. On Dec. 3, 2018, she instructed her assistant to forward the funds to the Court Clerk’s Office but failed to specify that the funds were no longer in escrow. Shipley’s assistant issued a check to the Court Clerk’s Office on the trust account, resulting in the overdraft.

Tennessee Valley Authority officials were scheduled to meet today with Roane County leaders at its Kingston power plant, a move that attorney Jim Scott, who represents the county leaders, met with trepidation, Knoxnews reports. The elected officials are suing TVA and its contractor, Jacobs Engineering, alleging they knew about the health risks posed to workers hired to clean up the Kingston coal ash spill. “I hope officials at TVA involved in the attempted arrangement of this meeting with Roane County officials have discussed this thoroughly with their attorneys because I have certain issues of concern as their attorney in that action,” Scott said. TVA claims the sit down is a routine meeting with county leaders.

A Nashville jury yesterday found Roy Coons Jr. guilty of strangling and killing 12-year-old Yhoana Arteaga inside her Goodlettsville home, the Tennessean reports. Prosecutors argued for the more severe charge of premeditated first-degree murder, but jurors settled on second-degree. Coons also was found guilty of felony murder, attempted child rape and aggravated criminal trespassing. Assistant District Attorney Pam Anderson said in her closing arguments that while "there are maybes and, yes, there are guesses” involved in the prosecution's theory of what happened that day, there was enough evidence to prove Coons had done it.

Outgoing House Speaker Glen Casada has asked a judge to relieve him of obligations to pay alimony to his ex-wife, saying he no longer has the income to keep up with his obligations, NewsChannel5 reports. The filing blames the loss of Casada's job with Merck pharmaceuticals, a position he claimed he voluntarily resigned from earlier this year amidst the same scandal that led to him stepping down as House Speaker. "Due to his advanced age and the circumstances of his unemployment, it is highly unlikely that Mr. Casada will be able to secure comparable employment," Casada's attorney Sarah Richter Perky wrote in a motion.

Shelby County lawyer Urura Mayers on Monday received a public censure from the Board of Professional Responsibility of the Tennessee Supreme Court. Mayers presented a check drawn on her trust account to a court clerk’s office for payment of a filing fee before client funds covering the cost of the filing fee had been deposited into her trust account, resulting in an overdraft.  Mayers also failed to properly supervise a legal assistant who used the trust account to pay personal expenses.

In one complaint, Saul delayed in the drafting and execution of the documents evidencing a divorce settlement and then failed to file the documents with the court.
