The Advisory Task Force on Composition of Judicial Districts will hold a public hearing in Memphis on July 15 The public hearing will be held from 1 – 5 p.m. CDT at the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, Wade Auditorium, Room 136, One Front Street. Attendees must sign up online in advance to speak. While all input and suggestions on redistricting are welcome, the Task Force has recently developed eight focus questions on which it is particularly interested in receiving feedback.

Former Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam and U.S. Rep. Mark Green both confirmed today that they would not seek the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate next year when current Sen. Lamar Alexander retires, the Tennessean reports. "While I think serving in the United States Senate would be a great privilege and responsibility, I have come to the conclusion that it is not my calling for the next period of my life," Haslam said. Green said he would be focusing his time on helping re-elect President Donald Trump and winning back GOP control of the House.

Former Tennessee Titans tight end and sports media personality Frank Wycheck has filed a civil lawsuit against now-closed Franklin workout facility Prairie Life Fitness, the Nashville Post reports. The suit claims Wycheck injured himself at the now-closed facility in July 2018 when he “stepped on an improperly installed or maintained board on the floor” of a steam room/sauna area. He's seeking $1 million in damages.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement will begin nationwide raids as soon as Sunday to arrest and deport some 2,000 immigrants who have been issued removal orders, U.S. News and World Report reports. The raids were originally planned for June but were postponed by President Donald Trump. They will include collateral arrests of immigrants in the country illegally who are at the site of the raids but are not specific targets of ICE. The operation will focus on families who recently entered the country illegally.

Hawkins County lawyer Gerald Todd Eidson was publicly censured on Wednesday by the Supreme Court of Tennessee. The Board of Professional Responsibility filed a petition for discipline on May 8, 2018, concerning one complaint of misconduct. Eidson was appointed to represent an incarcerated client who had filed a pro se petition for post-conviction relief. Eidson failed to adequately communicate with his client and did not act diligently. As a result, the pro se petition for post-conviction relief was dismissed by the trial court. Eidson was able to have the order of dismissal set aside, and the client was appointed new counsel.

A new class action lawsuit claims that FedEx downplayed the effects of a cyberattack on subsidiary TNT Express, misleading investors and violating federal securities laws, the Commercial Appeal reports. The lawsuit claims FedEx pushed a positive narrative that “lacked a reasonable basis” about the ability of TNT to meet goals and retain business following a 2017 cyberattack. FedEx allegedly made misleading statements about the TNT integration that caused members of the class action to purchase FedEx stock "at artificially inflated prices."

A new report shows that Tennessee’s CoreCivic-run prisons have twice as many homicides as state-run facilities, the Nashville Scene reports. CoreCivic currently houses 30 percent of Tennessee’s prisoners, and the for-profit prison operator also runs the state’s largest prison, Trousdale Turner Correctional Center, which has faced increased scrutiny in recent months.

Prosecutors want to try as an adult Jayona Brown, a 17-year-old who caused a fatal car crash that resulted in the death of a Nashville police officer, the Nashville Scene reports. Brown crashed into Officer John Anderson’s vehicle on July 4 after running a flashing red light. She is being held in juvenile detention and faces charges of vehicular homicide by recklessness, felony evading arrest, aggravated assault by recklessness, driving on a suspended license and juvenile curfew violation.

While Gov. Bill Lee has not called for Rep. David Byrd to resign from office, he asked the embattled lawmaker in a private phone call last month not to seek reelection, the Tennessean reports. Byrd, R-Waynesboro, has for more than a year faced public allegations from three women who say he sexually assaulted them when they were 15 and 16 years old in the 1980s. Byrd has another year and a half left on his current term.
