Shelby County lawyer Archie Sanders III on Tuesday received a public censure from the Board of Professional Responsibility. In July 2010, Sanders was hired to represent his client in a labor dispute against his former employer, but Sanders didn’t file a lawsuit until June 2013. Court records reveal that Sanders failed to respond to discovery requests for two years, and during that time took no action to move the case forward, thereby allowing his client’s case to needlessly languish.

He will face U.S. Navy veteran Jack Maddux in the Republican primary. DesJarlais narrowly defended a primary challenger in 2014, after a scandal broke in which the pro-life congressman was found to have encouraged both his ex-wife and a mistress to get abortions. Last year he defeated Grant Starrett in the Republican primary as well as Democratic challenger Steven Reynolds. U.S. Rep. Marsha Blackburn said that a law that provided less scrutiny to producers and distributors of opioids should be “addressed immediately,” The Tennessean reports. The law came to light after a joint investigation by “60 Minutes” and The Washington Post showed Blackburn and other elected officials who took large donations from the drug lobby later worked to produce a law that stripped the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration of its ability to freeze suspicious shipments of narcotics. Blackburn co-sponsored the legislation in the House.
