In honor of Pro Bono Month, the Tennessee Faith & Justice Alliance will be hosting the first annual statewide Pro Bono & Faith Days from Oct. 21 to Oct. 29. All houses of worship and faith-based partners are encouraged to plan and participate in a form of pro bono work or an equal justice project during the week. That participation may take various forms as fits the local community. Please contact kimi.dement@tncourts.gov for more information on how to get involved.

Bill Haltom will be in Nashville on Sunday to read from his book “The Other Fellow May Be Right: The Civility of Howard Baker.” The appearance will take place during the Southern Festival of Books at the Nashville Main Public Library’s Banner Room, from 1 to 2 p.m. Haltom will also be available to sign copies of the book.

Jeffrey Konrad of Collierville has been awarded more than $140 million in a lawsuit against the makers of AndroGel, a testosterone drug he claims gave him a heart attack, The Commercial Appeal reports. Konrad’s attorneys argued in federal court that drug maker AbbVie Inc., misrepresented the risks associated with the drug. Konrad had been prescribed AndroGel by his doctor for conditions attributed to low testosterone levels.

A lawsuit filed on behalf of Paul Edward Branch claims that two Knox County Sheriff’s Office deputies used excessive force in Tasing Branch, the Knoxville News Sentinel reports. The incident was captured on body camera footage and allegedly shows deputies Paul Saah and Christian L. Gomez shocking Branch 10 times at 50,000 volts each for more than one minute. The lawsuit seeks $3 million in damages.

Montgomery County attorney Carrie Leigh Gasaway was disbarred from the practice of law on Monday by the Tennessee Supreme Court. A complaint filed against Gasaway alleged misappropriation of funds from a trust. She later received a criminal conviction for felony theft in excess of $10,000. Gasaway was previously disbarred in October 2015, and that order remains in effect.

The Supreme Court of Tennessee on Monday reinstated the law license of Robert Lee Marlow. Marlow had been temporarily suspended on Aug. 25, for failing to respond to the Board of Professional Responsibility regarding a complaint of misconduct. After filing a petition to dissolve the suspension on Sept. 1, a panel recommended that the request be granted. Marlow had to pay the court costs of the proceedings.

This week the Tennessee Bar Association will be in Cookeville, offering three hours of dual CLE that will focus on law firm and law practice succession planning. The program will be held at the Cookeville Higher Education Campus on Oct. 13.

Baker Donelson’s co-founder Lewis Donelson III, senior counsel in the firm’s Memphis office, is celebrating his 100th birthday today. He earned his law degree in 1941 from Georgetown University, and founded Donelson & Adams in Memphis in 1954. Among his many professional accomplishments, he formed the first professional limited liability company in Tennessee, and served as Commissioner of Finance and Chief Operating Officer for the state during Gov. Lamar Alexander’s administration. “Baker Donelson is the firm it is today largely because of 'Lewie.' Not just because of the role he played in building this firm, but because of his spirit of dedication and service that is such an integral part of the culture and personality of Baker Donelson," said firm chairman and CEO Ben C. Adams.

The Tennessee Justice Center will honor nine philanthropists at a Hall of Fame Gala coming up at the end of the month. Don Enright, Ruth Ann Leach Harnisch, Ellen Levy and Gregg Horowitz, Bill and Robin King, Nancy MacLean, and Steve and Jeanne Thomas will be recognized, having contributed a collective $850,000 to the work of the TJC. The dinner will be held at the Sheraton Grand in Nashville on Oct. 26 at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are available here.
