During the American Bar Association Annual Meeting in New York City, the ABA House adopted policies urging Congress to add courthouses to the “sensitive locations” list for immigration enforcement and licensing groups to admit to the bar undocumented law school graduates under certain circumstances. Resolution 108, proposed by the ABA Law Student Division and backed by the ABA YLD, recommended that undocumented law grads be admitted to the bar if they are “seeking legal status.” Resolution 10C urges Congress to add courthouses to the list of “sensitive locations,” which currently include places like schools, healthcare facilities and places of worship, as off-limits to immigration enforcement agents.

The chairman of the Tennessee State Museum board said that its controversial “code of ethics” will be reviewed in face of attacks from state legislators, Humphrey on the Hill reports. The Douglas Henry State Museum Commission had previously created an internal policy requiring commission members to provide copies in advance of statements to the public or media and prohibits them from making comments that “disparage” the museum, the staff or the commission. It calls for all commission members to sign the code, pledging to abide by its requirements and to resign from the commission upon a violation.

The city of Memphis is prepared to sue the state of Tennessee to remove confederate statues from city owned land, Fox 13 reports. “There is no place in the city of Memphis for signs or symbols of hatred, bigotry or racism,” said City Council Chairman Berlin Boyd. The city must get approval from the Tennessee Historical Commission before a statue of Nathan Bedford Forrest can be removed. That issue is currently being taken up in court, but a second statue of Jefferson Davis has not yet been addressed. City Attorney Bruce McMullen said the city will add him to the list of statues they want down on an amended waiver adding if that is denied, “We are prepared to go all the way to the Tennessee Supreme Court on this issue.”
