After reports that money from Eric Trump’s charity golf tournaments for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital went instead to some of President Donald Trump’s favorite charities, U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen is calling on Attorney General Jeff Sessions to investigate, The Tennessean reports. Cohen said that if last week’s Forbes magazine report is true, donors were misled and the event could have been used to funnel money into revenue for President Trump’s private businesses.

A federal judge has denied a request from the former Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office Finance Deputy to pay a smaller amount towards his defense attorney’s bills, WSMV reports. Joe Russell, who served under the now-imprisoned former Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold, pleaded guilty in January to his part in an e-cigarette scheme at the county’s jail. The judge ruled Russell had to pay $1,000 per month towards the cost of his defense.

Attorneys general for the District of Columbia and the state of Maryland filed suit against President Donald Trump today, alleging that he has violated anti-corruption clauses in the Constitution by accepting payments and benefits from foreign governments, The Washington Post reports. The lawsuit centers on the fact that Trump has retained ownership of his company while serving as president, alleging that he has not fulfilled promises that he would keep his public duties and private business interests separate. If a federal judge allows the case to proceed, one of the first steps will be to demand the president’s tax returns through the discovery process.

Gov. Bill Haslam signed a bill into law on Friday that authorizes judges to give undocumented immigrants longer sentences for felony convictions than U.S. citizens, Humphrey on the Hill reports. Senate Minority Leader Lee Harris, D-Memphis, said in a statement that the law could be weak to a challenge in court. “I don’t believe any other state has a law like this currently in place and courts elsewhere have struck down similar efforts when they have been tried,” Harris said.

The defense case for Bill Cosby, on trial in Pennsylvania for allegedly committing sexual assault in 2004, rested today without calling the comedian and TV star to testify, the Chicago Tribune reports. Cosby’s attorney, Brian McMonagle, argued that his client had engaged in a consensual affair with the woman who accused him of drugging and molesting her. Accuser Andrea Constand previously sued Cosby when prosecutors declined to press charges in 2005, and statements made by Cosby while under oath in that case could still be brought up by prosecutors in the current criminal trial.
