Staff the Veterans’ Legal Advice Clinic — The Veterans’ Legal Advice Clinic is a joint project of the KBA/Barristers Access to Justice Committees, Legal Aid of East Tennessee, the Knox County Public Defender’s Community Law Office, the University of Tennessee College of Law, Lincoln Memorial University-Duncan School of Law, and the local Veterans Affairs office. This is a general advice and referral clinic which requires attorney volunteers for its continued operation. The clinic serves 20 to 30 veterans each month who have a variety of legal issues, including, but not limited to, family law, landlord/tenant, bankruptcy, criminal defense, consumer protection, contract, child support, and personal injury issues. Attorney volunteers are needed for the next clinic, which will be held on Jan. 8 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Knox County Public Defender’s Community Law Office, 1101 Liberty Street. Learn more or register to participate.

Support the Volunteer Breakfast — The Volunteer Breakfast occurs on the fourth Thursday of every month at 6:15 a.m. at the Volunteer Ministry Center, 511 N. Broadway. Breakfast is served to about 30 to 40 individuals and finishes at around 7:30 a.m. The Barristers Volunteer Breakfast Committee needs volunteers to prepare and serve food and sponsor each breakfast. Four or five volunteers are needed each time, and sponsorships are $150. You can volunteer, sponsor a breakfast, or both! If you would like more information about volunteering or sponsoring a breakfast, please contact the VolunteerBreakfast Committee Co-Chairs, Paul E. Wehmeier or Matthew Knable.

The Law School Mentor Committee — The Law School Mentor Committee will be conducting mock interviews at U.T. College of Law on Jan. 23 - 29 and at LMU Duncan School of Law also in January 2020. The Tennessee Bar Association is joining with the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB), the Tennessee Medical Association (TMA), and other organizations to ask Governor Lee and the legislature to eliminate the Professional Privilege Tax.

To help with this effort, we need more information from you. Please take this short two-minute survey to help us better relay real information and statistics to our elected officials about how paying this tax is affecting Tennessee attorneys.
