The Tennessee Justice Center hosted a celebration on Thursday to mark its 20 years of service and to induct the organization’s founders into the “TJC Hall of Fame.” The event was held at the Musicians Hall of Fame in Nashville, with nearly 400 in attendance. The honored founders included: Margaret Behm, Mike Cody, Harlan Dodson, Harris Gilbert, Riney Green, David Herbert, Lowry Kline, Howard Vogel and Ashley Wiltshire. See photos from the event.

The Supreme Court agreed to a hear a case that will decide whether new restrictions placed on abortion clinics and doctors in Texas is placing an “undue burden” on women seeking legal abortions. USA Today reports the restrictions – which force doctors to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals and require clinics to meet standards for outpatient surgery centers – threaten to leave the state with 10 clinics. "This will be the most important abortion rights case before the Supreme Court in almost 25 years," said Nancy Northup, president of the Center for Reproductive Rights.

Tennessee is among the top eight states in the nation for the frequency of murder-suicides, according to a new study by the Violence Policy Center. The report, featured in the Times Free Press, also found 72 percent of murder-suicides involved an intimate partner.

Unions representing Memphis city employees filed a lawsuit asking a judge to stop planned pension cuts for newer employees, WREG reports. "The City Council just arbitrarily selected 7 1/2 years and there was basis for that decision other than just pick a number," Danny Todd with the International Firefighters Association said. The pension cuts are expected to take place next July.

Tennessee Supreme Court Justice Cornelia A. Clark received the Pioneer Award from Vision 2020 when the national women’s advocacy group met in Nashville for its Vision 2020 Fifth National Congress. A large portion of the conference was devoted to the women’s suffrage movement.

The Campaign for Accountability (CfA) is calling for an investigation of Sen. Bob Corker on possible insider trading actions, Nooga reports. The CfA claims Corker violated federal law and Senate rules by making false statements on his personal financial disclosure forms. A Corker spokesman called the accusations "baseless."

The city of Knoxville closed on its $2.47 million purchase of the former State Supreme Court site. The Knoxville News Sentinel reports the city plans on using a market study to determine how to use the site, including possible retail, residential and hotel space. "It's very important to the identification for the city that (the site) have some kind of vibrancy," said Dawn Michelle Foster, the city's redevelopment director.

University of Tennessee College of Law will announce a campaign at tonight's anniversary gala to raise $45 million to support student scholarships and help recruit and retain top faculty. The money will also go to the college's various programs, including the Center for Advocacy and the Clayton Center for Entrepreneurial Law. "Financial support in these key areas will bolster UT Law and improve our reputation and value to the university, the state and the legal profession," Dean Melanie Wilson said.
