The Tennessee Supreme Court suspended Rutherford County lawyer Walter Alan Rose on Oct. 30. Rose was suspended based upon his plea of guilty to violating Title 18 under United States Code, Addict in Possession of a Firearm. Read the BPR release.

Two-hundred new attorneys were sworn in by members of the Tennessee Supreme Court today at the War Memorial Auditorium in downtown Nashville. The Tennessee Bar Association hosted its open house for new lawyers and their families this afternoon. The Tennessee Judicial Conference Foundation created an endowed scholarship in honor of Lincoln Memorial University Duncan School of Law Dean Gary R. Wade, who retired from the Tennessee Supreme Court in September. The scholarship will be awarded on a rotating basis to an LMU Law student and a University of Tennessee College of Law student. “I am honored by and grateful for the generosity of my colleagues,” Wade said.

The Tennessee Supreme Court will hear oral arguments at the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law in two cases -- one criminal (State of Tennessee v. Michael Smith) and one civil (Donriel A. Borne v. Celadon Trucking Services, Inc.) – on Nov. 5, 1:30 p.m. in the Historic Courtroom.

The Associated Press says its year-long investigation into sex abuse by police, jail guards and other state law enforcement officials reveals “significant flaws” in how agencies deal with those suspected of sexual misconduct. The AP claims the broken system allows officers accused of sexual misconduct to jump from job to job and some never face decertification.

Knox County Public Defender Mark Stephens does not agree with District Attorney Charme Allen’s authorization to use felony burglary charges to prosecute petty thieves who return to the scene of their shoplifting crimes. “The DA has almost relegated itself to being a collection agency or a protector of Walmart,” Stephens said in the Knoxville News Sentinel. “It is an overreaction. It is not at all what the legislature intended.”

The Daily Beacon reports that Michael Williams, former Vols football player charged with two counts of aggravated rape, attended a motion hearing today for updated results of the social media subpoena requested by Williams' attorney. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YikYak and Snapchat were among the social media platforms contacted for the subpoena requesting messages sent from the victim, Williams and A.J. Johsnon, who is also facing rape charges in the 2014 incident.

The Columbia Daily Herald reports that Gov. Bill Haslam’s office will not release three documents relating to the governor’s building-management outsourcing plan. Haslam’s office cited a “deliberative process privilege” for high government officials as an exemption to the state’s public records law.

Hamilton County Courthouses and the Hamilton County Juvenile Court were evacuated on Monday afternoon after an anonymous individual called in a bomb threat, WRCB reports. Courts resumed business after the Chattanooga Police Department conducted a walkthrough and no threats were located.
