The American Bar Association Working Group on Unaccompanied Immigrant Minors has launched the ICAN Yammer group, an online and free mobile application resource. Accessible by invitation only, the app is an interactive resource that allows volunteer attorneys and mentors to post questions on legal representation of unaccompanied minors, receive answers from national immigration experts and share documents.

Legislation to prohibit Tennessee teachers from engaging in political campaigning during work hours is headed to the governor after clearing the House and Senate, Memphis Daily News reports. Currently, public school teachers and other school employees are excluded from the Little Hatch Act, which applies to most state employees.

Registration is open for the "Re-Visioning Justice in America” Conference, which will be held April 17 through 19 at Vanderbilt Divinity School. Presentations, panels and key note speeches will address a variety of topics, including racial discrimination in sentencing, the business of mass incarceration, the Cradle to Prison Pipeline and more. Keynote speakers include civil rights lawyer, advocate and legal scholar Michelle Alexander and Bryan Stevenson, founder and executive director of the Equal Justice Initiative.

Mike A. Little, Leslie Anne Longshore and Boyd M. Patterson Jr. of Chattanooga are finalists to fill the upcoming criminal court vacancy in the 11th Judicial District, which serves Hamilton County. The Governor’s Council for Judicial Appointments today submitted the names to Gov. Bill Haslam to fill the post now held by Judge Rebecca Stern, who is retiring June 1. The Access to Justice Commission and The Faith & Justice Alliance are hosting a volunteer attorney training April 27 from 10 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at Lipscomb University’s Shamblin Theater in Nashville. This training event is designed for pro bono volunteer attorneys to prepare them to assist low income Tennesseans in high needs areas of law. Registration deadline is Friday. The AOC has more.

A federal judge has wrongly prevented "lawful, commonsense policies" from taking effect by blocking President Barack Obama's executive action that seeks to shield millions of immigrants from deportation, the White House said today. The administration released a statement criticizing U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen's decision to keep a temporary hold on the president's policies. The U.S. Department of Justice had asked Hanen to lift the stay, but the Texas judge refused in a ruling late Tuesday night. The Greeneville Sun has the story from the Associated Press.

Joseph Paul Calandriello was suspended on April 1 for three years based on four complaints of misconduct. The first complaint from the Davidson County District Attorney General reported Calandriello’s arrest for possession of a controlled substance, DUI, violation of the open container law and public intoxication. The other complainants reported that Calandriello had abandoned his practice and ceased communication. View the BPR notice.

Republican Senate Speaker Ron Ramsey opposes a fast-moving bill making the Holy Bible the official book of Tennessee, saying it "belittles the most holy book ever written." Ramsey told reporters yesterday that he had concerns about the measure passed earlier in the day by the Senate State and Local Government Committee with seven members voting aye and two abstaining. "I'm just adamantly opposed to that,” Ramsey said. “The Bible is my official book. It is. It shouldn't be put in the Blue Book with 'Rocky Top,' cave salamanders and the tulip poplar" tree.
