Joycelyn Stevenson, president-elect of the Nashville Bar Association, recently joined more than 300 emerging leaders at the American Bar Association’s Bar Leadership Institute (BLI) in Chicago. The institute is designed to prepare incoming bar leaders for their time in office.

Tennessee Bar Association Vice President Jason Long and Executive Director Allan Ramsaur also attended the annual event.

Former Tennessee Defense Lawyers Association President MICHAEL J. PHILBIN died April 24 at the age of 69. Philbin, a 1971 graduate of Vanderbilt University Law School, practiced law in Nashville with Taylor, Philbin, Pigue, Marchetti & Bennett and its predecessor firms from 1971 to 1998. From 1998 until his death, he was a solo practioner with Michael J. Philbin PC and owner of Lawyer’s Escrow Service Inc. He primarily handled general civil litigation and real estate matters.

While in Washington, D.C. in April for ABA Day, TBA President Jonathan Steen and President-elect Bill Harbison met with U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito. TBA YLD President Rachel Moses and Executive Director Allan Ramsaur were also with the delegation, meeting with Tennessee legislators as well as learning about issues of importance to the legal profession. The Tennessee participants join other leaders from national, state and local bar associations across the country.

ROBERT MARTIN “MARK” ADDISON, 46, died unexpectedly Jan. 9. A 1998 graduate of Wake Forest University School of Law, Addison was first vice president and trust advisor with SunTrust Bank. He previously served as a partner at Chambliss, Bahner & Stophel where he handled elder law, estate planning, probate and real estate.

Former Chattanooga Bar Association president JOSIAH “JODY” CARR EGGLESTON BAKER, 85, died Feb. 10. Baker, who grew up in Chattanooga, graduated from Vanderbilt University Law School and the U.S Naval Intelligence School. He worked in Washington, D.C., for four years but returned to Tennessee in 1955 to serve as deputy clerk and master of the Davidson County Chancery Court. In 1958, he relocated to Chattanooga and became a partner at Goins, Gammons, Baker and Robinson.

TBA senior counselor HARRY WARD CAMP died Jan. 27 at the age of 83. Camp practiced law for more than 50 years in McMinnville. He graduated in 1957 from Vanderbilt University Law School, where he was president of the student body and associate managing editor of the law review. He was a member of the Christian Legal Society and served as president of the board of Aldersgate Renewal Ministries for nine years. He later was certified as a spiritual director by Stillpoint in Nashville and taught courses at the Caribbean College of the Bible.

The Oak Ridge law firm of Mostoller, Stulberg, Whitfield & Allen celebrated its 40th anniversary recently with clients and colleagues. The firm, founded by Ann Mostoller and Dorothy Stulberg, was one of the first all-female practices in the state. Since that time, it has expanded its practice to handle family law, special education, probate, criminal defense and personal injury cases in addition to bankruptcy matters.

Retired Brentwood lawyer and TBA senior counselor WILLIAM BRUCE “BILL” BRADLEY died Dec. 11, 2014, at 81. After graduating from Southern Methodist University, Bradley worked at Aetna Life in Dallas and was president of Hermitage Life in Nashville. He earned a law degree from Nashville School of Law and formed Brentwood Law and two local banks. He served as president of the Williamson County Bar Association and was a founding member of the John Marshall Inn of Court, founding president of the Brentwood Exchange Club and chair of the Davidson County Republican Party.
